Ryan Hackett in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200
Joe Laracuente: "Ryan ran a really great race, he's making progress and who knows where will we be later this year I hope RHR gets more support......"
A very successful weekend for Ryan Hackett and the entire Hackett Racing team was rewarded with Ryan’s first top-20 finish in only his third NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start.
After spending the day on Thursday going through inspection and setting the truck up the team was ready to hit the track for a long day on Friday. The day started with an hour and a half of practice.
In the first practice Ryan ran a total of 23 laps and posted the 24th fastest speed of the session. The team, led by Crew Chief, Craig Nemes, went to work in the short break period and sent Ryan out on the track for final practice.
Ryan ran 16 laps as he improved his top time by two-tenths of a second and would finish final practice by posting the 23rd fastest speed. Although the team did not attempt a true qualifying run in practice they were confident that they would pick up even more speed.
Unfortunately, qualifying was rained out after only ˝ of the field went out to qualify so due to their position in the owner’s points the Hackett Racing team would have to start in 34th position.
Although happy that they were guaranteed a spot in the race Ryan and the team would have liked to see how well the truck would do in qualifying. As soon as the green flag dropped, Ryan wasted no time making his way through the field.
When the first caution flew on lap Ryan had already moved up 8 spots into 26th position. Ryan consistently ran in the top 20 for almost the entire race, racing as high as 15th and started the final segment of the race in 19th position.
In the final 15 laps Ryan was able to make a pass into 18th place. He would remain there until the checkered flag. The weekend proved to be very successful as Ryan gained a total of sixteen positions in the race from start to finish.
Ryan and the Hackett Racing team will focus their attention in two weeks at the high banked “Monster Mile”, Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware for the AAA Insurance 200. This race will mark the Ryan and Hackett Racing’s “home track” race as Ryan was raised only about 2 ˝ hours from the Speedway.
Sponsorship opportunities still exist for this race and an announcement on some very special guests of the team will follow soon.
